Full course description

 

This course is primarily intended for FIU employees whose work requires them to constantly move around and/or be in varying locations or work environments, handle and/or lift various objects (i.e. boxes, tools, machinery, etc.), clean, perform maintenance or inspections, and other relatable tasks.

While this course is not limited to FIU employees that fit the description above, anyone can attend this training to learn how to protect oneself from hazards that may be encountered on any given day, either in the workplace, home, or other location outside FIU.

This training covers various topics and will equip you with the knowledge to be able to:

  • Pick and use proper personal protective equipment to safeguard your body from injuries
  • Use proper motion techniques and tools to prevent strains, sprains, aches, and tears injuries
  • Safely handle common equipment, tools, and machinery
  • Understand lockout/tagout principles
  • Safely use ladders
  • Effectively utilize ergonomic principles
  • Respond to general emergencies
  • Provide basic care to minor injuries
  • Activate the emergency response system
  • Report incidences
