Full course description
In The U.S., 49 states report related services shortages. New hires often experience a steep learning curve to deliver related services in schools, as the educational model differs from the medical model taught in generalist practitioners. As educators, we can better prepare our graduates to succeed in these practice settings. This micro-credential will provide faculty with education, resources, and tools to support their (interested) students for careers in the school-based setting. Developed within the FIU Departments of Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Communication Sciences and Disorders, this badge recognizes fundamental knowledge of related services competencies in school-based settings and how to teach students to distinguish the educational model for service delivery from the prevalent medical model that produces general practitioners. Earners can differentiate between service delivery models, consider effective interventions, and communicate effectively in school-based settings.
